JDO makes skincare personal
Skinsei is a new personalised skincare subscription service from Unilever that is poised to revolutionise the category with a holistic, diagnostic-driven approach to skin health that is accessible to all.
Developed in a highly collaborative, accelerated process by a team of brand, product and innovation experts, Skinsei went from workshop concepts to beta launch in under one year. JDO played an integral role in this process, leading the creative and bringing to life a brand world bursting with vibrancy and style.
The new identity features a vivid kaleidoscope of colours that reflects the Skinsei diagnostic matrix. Separated into seven fragments by radiant rays that shoot out from the core, each section represents a different contributing factor to overall skin health – diet, sleep, exercise, UV exposure, air quality, climate and skin type. The bright spectrum is inspired by Skinsei’s microbiome-friendly formulations, with the vibrancy communicating the positive benefits of good bacteria for healthy skin.
The wordmark is silver and sleek with a future-focused aesthetic that conveys the new brand’s commitment to innovation in both emerging skin science and advance technology. Clear and effective in digital environments, whilst understated and chic on pack, the wordmark delivers Skinsei’s lifestyle aspirations across all brand touchpoints.
More than a simple shipping vessel, the bespoke box is designed to enhance the consumer experience. Multi-layered and multi-coloured, each surface is a new discovery, surprising and inspiring Skinsei’s users with personalised information to help them achieve healthy, beautiful skin.
JDO also supported in establishing a house-style for Instagram as well as initial collateral to jump start the brand’s online presence. The style system is simple, yet effective, enabling non-designers to contribute to Skinsei’s feed in a way that amplifies the chromatic look and feel of the brand.
To create belief in Skinsei’s ground-breaking proposition and innovative products, we needed to break the rules. From a vigorous process that disrupted conventional brand creation protocols to rethinking design principles for a digital-first experience, we worked hand-in-hand with the visionary team at Unliever to create a beauty wellness brand that is fit for the future.
