Crafting a distinct style for a premium beer
Watching football or listening to music? If you live in Portugal and have a beer in your hand chances are it’s a Super Bock. Established in 1927, Super Bock is Portugal’s most popular beer and a brand that has become synonymous with quality and innovation.
But with a lack of variety in the Portuguese beer sector, there had been a huge surge in the popularity of wine, with consumers attracted to its ingredients, flavours, provenance and processes.
Unicer Bebidas, the Portuguese brewery responsible for Super Bock, wanted to reignite interest in Super Bock’s heritage by tapping into the rising popularity for authentic craft beers.
They subsequently launched their premium craft beer range under the sub brand 'Selecção 1927,’ endorsed by Super Bock, in an elegant 75cl bottle and on draught.
Imperial Stout, the first beer launched, defines the look and feel of the brand. We used a textured black paper and printed gold type to achieve a premium look with masses of taste and quality cues. The label has been designed in such a way to enable range extension with the draught lens reflecting the label design.
“Our aim was to reinvent, reappraise and reset the Super Bock brand experience for consumers, as well as enhancing the value and quality perception of Super Bock’s brewing heritage.” Ray Smith, Design Director, JDO
With this fantastic new design, JDO has enabled us to elevate the Super Bock brand to a more authentic and sophisticated level as well as increasing interest in the beer category as a whole.
